Reading week is finally here! We’re halfway through Term 2, and with Valentine’s Day approaching, it’s time to take a well-deserved study break. Whether you have a romantic date lined up, want to study somewhere new, or you’re looking for a different place to go with friends, here are some great spots for you to relax and unwind in… by Amy Preston
Whether or not Valentine’s Day is your thing, if you’re lucky enough to have reading week this week, the following cafés and restaurants provide a chilled environment for essay writing, having a study break with friends or even meeting up with that special someone…
Curiositea
I remember visiting Curiositea with my mum on a Warwick open day four years ago. Sitting in the warm café over a hot chocolate made me feel so at home and confirmed that this was the university for me. Curiositea’s Valentine’s Day themed speciality drinks are truly one of a kind, and I make a point of going each year for a hot chocolate and some red velvet cake. You can keep up to date with their themed treats that change weekly on the Warwick SU Facebook page.
Basement Browns
If you’re into your pizza and prefer a casual dining experience, Basement Browns on Warwick Street, Leamington is the perfect lunchtime or evening spot. This would be a great location for a first date because of its chilled atmosphere, great playlists, funky décor and the fact that the pizzas are freshly baked in front of you. For students on a budget, I recommend ordering a family sized pizza so that you can either share it, or better yet, take the rest home. Lunch for tomorrow — sorted!
Xananas
If you don’t fancy venturing off campus but want to treat yourself to an evening meal or tasty brunch, Xananas bistro style food will make a change to your usual student meals. Be sure to check out the specials board too if you’re treating yourself this Valentine’s Day.
Spa Town Coffee
If you’re using reading week to get started on an essay, but still need time to wind down, Spa Town Coffee is a great place to study. Its white walls and super seating arrangement creates an energising environment. Plenty of Warwick students enjoy working here, so if you like to work around others but don’t fancy the feel of the library on this romantic holiday, this is a much more relaxing space.
Café Library
Situated underneath the Library, Café Library is a great space to take a quick break for those who are too busy for dating or socialising due to assignments during reading week. From the hot food menu to a selection of sandwiches, cakes and snacks, there’s plenty of choice to fuel you through those long hours of essay writing. It’s the perfect place to meet up with friends for a study break, although perhaps not the most romantic option for a first date…
