Can you wear black to a military ball?
Anything knee-length or above is considered a cocktail dress or semi-formal and is, traditionally, not considered appropriate for a formal ball event. Male military spouses and dates should wear a tuxedo, or a very nice black suit with a tie.

Women wear knee- to floor-length gowns, but also have the option of cocktail dresses, as long as detailing is minimal.

The jewelry must be small, polished, yellow gold or silver colored, ball or round stud earrings. They can be post, screw on or clip earrings, but cannot exceed one-quarter of an inch in diameter and can only be worn when women are dressed in service, blue dress and blue-white dress.
Can Marines wear gold chains?
Necklaces. Necklaces can be worn, but they should not be exposed when wearing uniforms. Male Marines are not authorized to wear earrings. Female marines are allowed to wear one earring per ear when wearing civilian clothes and military uniforms.
