You are first entered into SEVIS (by a Designated School Official at IEI) when your initial I-20 is created. When your initial I-20 is printed out, it comes with a barcode and a unique SEVIS ID number. After you begin your studies in the U.S., SEVIS maintains personal information about you and your academic status.

Continuing exchange visitors do not pay the SEVIS I-901 fee again when they: Apply for reinstatement after a minor violation or technical infraction. What if my employer is not E verified?
If the final non-confirmation by E-verify was wrong (an error in their own database that they failed to correct within 10 days) and an employer terminates an employee upon receiving the non-confirmation, the employer may be liable for wrongful termination and national origin or unfair immigration-related claims.
Who fills i983?
DHS requires that the STEM OPT student and employer work together to complete the Form I-983. Properly completing this form will successfully document the relationship between the STEM OPT opportunity, the academic degree received and the learning objectives of the F-1 student.

Your I-983 Training Plan can be either hand signed or we will accept verified electronic signatures. If you opt for the electronic signature, the signature must have a verification mark or be an signature. Typed signatures or signatures with a typed appearance are not accepted.
What is STEM OPT?
The STEM OPT extension is a 24-month period of temporary training that directly relates to an F-1 student’s program of study in an approved STEM field. Students may not apply for STEM OPT extensions during the 60-day grace period following an initial period of regular post-completion OPT.
